To set up your AirPods, you need to pair them. To do this, you need a Mac or an Android device. You also need to have Bluetooth on your phone or other Bluetooth devices that will be connecting with your AirPods.

- To access the System Preferences for your Mac, select the Apple menu, then choose System Preferences.
- Select Bluetooth from the drop-down menu.
- Turn on Bluetooth if it isn’t already.
- Open the charging case and place both AirPods inside.
- When you press and hold the setup button on the back of the case, the status light will flash white.
- Click the Connect button after selecting your AirPods from the Devices list.
Click on either the Bluetooth menu or toggling volume in the menu bar if you are still hearing sound from your Mac speakers, and then make sure that your AirPods are selected as the output device.

Be sure your Mac is running macOS 10.14.4 if you use AirPods (2nd generation). Make sure you are running macOS Sierra or later if you are using AirPods (1st generation).
Select the Apple menu, then System Preferences, then Bluetooth. If your AirPods appear on the list of devices* but they do not connect, remove them from the list:
- From the drop-down list, choose your AirPods
- To turn off your AirPods, click the X in the upper right-hand corner.
You may need to add your AirPods to the device list again in Bluetooth preferences:

Set the charging case with both AirPods inside.

You will need to open the lid of the charging case near your Mac.

To connect your AirPods, select them from the list of devices.

How to Put Airpods in Pairing Mode
If you own a non-Apple device, then you can use AirPods as a Bluetooth headset. You can listen to and talk, but not use Siri.
The following steps will help you set up your AirPods with an Android device or another device that is not an Apple device:
- Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled in your non-Apple device’s settings and go to the Bluetooth tab. For Android devices, you can find Bluetooth under Settings > Connections.
- Open the lid of your charging case with your AirPods inside.
- You will see the status light flashing white when you press and hold the setup button.
- You can select your AirPods from the Bluetooth devices list when they appear.
The steps you need to pair your AirPods are listed above. Ensure both devices are turned off and remove the one you want from the case.
Activate the device by pressing the button on the back for five seconds until the white light begins to flash twice. By holding the small circular button nearby the volume up/down buttons for about ten seconds or until two quick flashes appear (the same as when it’s off), it will be in pairing mode.
Once you have done this, turn on your second AirPod and follow the same steps. You will automatically hear your audio through them once they have been paired!
